
MEET ZION BOWENS
2022–Zion Bowens Started all nine games he played in. Led UH in receptions (35), receiving yards (494) and receiving touchdowns (4) despite missing four games due to injury. Averaged a team-best 14.1 yards per catch. Registered the team’s three longest catches of the season, including a 66-yard touchdown at San Diego State. Finished with a season-high 108 yards and nine receptions against the Aztecs. Also scored in wins against Nevada and UNLV, as well as a touchdown catch versus Wyoming. Had multiple catches in eight of nine contests.
Bowens Played in all 13 games, while starting the final three games of the season. Tallied a total of 257 receiving yards, one touchdown, and averaged 21.4 yards per catch on the season. Four of his 12 catches on the season went for 20 yards or more. Hauled in the second-longest touchdown reception in school history with a 93 yard score in a home win versus Colorado State.Finished with a career-high 172 receiving yards against Colorado State. Played in the seven contests with one start. Tallied five catches for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Averaged 29.0 yards per catch with three of his five catches going for more than 40 yards. In his lone start of the year versus New Mexico, caught touchdown passes of 42- and 40-yards within a 70-second span to help fuel UH’s win over the Lobos. Caught a pass in four straight contests before missing the final three games due to injury.
Prior to UH: Earned CCFCA Region III All-California team recognition as well as all-conference first-team honors as a sophomore at Long Beach City College. Tallied a team-high 42 receptions for 675 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games played. Also served as the team's primary kickoff and punt returner. Earned all-state honors as a punt returner. Racked up 1,198 all-purpose yards for the season.
Bowens is a graduate of Long Beach Poly in California. Was a standout in both football and track. Posted 35 catches for 612 yards and four touchdowns in football. Named the Press Telegram's Dream Team Athlete of the Year for the Poly track squad. CIF champion and state finalist in the 400-meter and league champion in both the 200- and 400-meter.
Born in Long Beach, Calif. Nickname is “Zibo.” Has two older sisters. Major is communicology. Parents are George Bowens and Lazette Scott-Bowens of Long Beach, Calif.
